Access

Compliance with the access provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act creates independence for people with disabilities. Enforcement of the anti-discrimination/social justice requirements in ADA will
create opportunities for our community. Accessible, affordable  public transportation is also a critical issue for us.
DRAC has been responsible for bringing 402 businesses/retail stores and restaurants into substantial legal compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Housing

The Utah housing crisis has had a direct  affect on our community with
increased rental rates, fewer subsidized units, and landlords violating fair housing laws. The Disabled Rights Action Committee works for greater availability of affordable/accessible housing. We support the idea of “visitability”—one no-step entrance, 32” clear openings and 36” hallways, and one ground floor bathroom with a 36” door in all new constructed homes.
DRAC has been directly responsible for bringing 1200 housing units into substantial compliance with the Federal Fair Housing Act.

Health Care

Attendant services—especially fighting for passage of MiCASSA, federal legislation that will grant everyone who qualifies for nursing home care the choice of funding for community-based attendant care.
Prescription Coverage
Affordable Quality Universal healthcare

Working in conjunction with other agencies, DRAC has been successful in restoring dental and vision benefits to Utah adults who rely on Medicaid to meet their health needs. We continue to work to implement a Money Follows the Person Rule in Utah, Money Follows the Person National legislation and MiCASSA.
